Prof. S Mohan spent a large part of his career at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India as a Senior Professor where he built a strong research group on “Functional Thin films for Micro Systems ” during the last four decades, published several high impact research papers in International journals and successfully executed prestigious R&D Interdisciplinary projects. He has published his research work in 250 papers in International journals and more than 300 papers in conferences in addition to contributing review articles and chapters on research topics of his interest. His Research contributions in Optical thin films has enabled him to get into the Round Robin of Optical Society of America on TiO2 coatings in 1985.
He interacted with many Research institutions such as Central Scientific Instruments Organisation at Chandigarh , Central Manufacturing Technology Institute , STAR C , Indian Institute of Science at Bangalore , IITs at Madras and Hyderabad as a mentor and connected them to Strategic Sector and Industries leading to Translational Research and productisation.
His association with the office of the Principal Scientific Advsior of Govt of India for over two decades helped him to contribute to Industry Academia interaction in many desciplines such as Automative , Manufacturing , Semiconductors , Medical Instruments and Photonics. He played a pivotal role in establishing Nanofabs at IISc and IIT Bombay in 2005 – the first of their kind in India and later at IIT Madras in 2011.
He is a founder member of Institute of Smart Structures and Systems and served as its President during 2004 – 2005.He also was Chairman / Advisor / Member of many committees of NPSM and NPMASS in promoting Smart Devices and Systems in India
Professor S. Mohan is a unique combination of Teaching , Research, Industry Academia Collaboration, Technology Development, Scientific Management, Business Development, IP management, Institution Building and coordination of National and International programs
He has now settled in US since 2019 and is spending time in connecting Research institutions in India with their counterparts and industries in US and Europe for promoting Translational Research
